Ani Barua is an 18 year old Bengali American girl born and brought up in Alexandria, Virginia. Being very family oriented, Ani grew up learning to speak both English and Bengali fluently. Her heavy involvement in the Bangladeshi American community in Northern Virginia has caused her to more closely embrace her Bengali culture and American culture simultaneously. She began training in Bengali folk dance and other common dance forms at a young age and has been performing ever since. During her free time, she loves playing the guitar, singing and volunteering at her local blood bank.

 

Currently a freshman at NVCC, she is working towards a degree in Biology and will soon transfer to George Mason University. She is working as a Certified Dental Assistant at a Pediatric dental office in her hometown of Alexandria. Having a passion for dentistry, she dreams of going to Dental school and opening a practice of her own one day. From a very young age, Ani realized the prejudice young girls and women face on a day to day basis based off of their gender and knew there was a desperate need for change. Knowing that it isn't a simple issue to solve, Ani knew she wanted to make an impact in one way or another.
